All about the ECC

Are you a freshman? Ewha has a famous building called the ECC which has many services for you. Read on to find out more!

ECC Information

ECC is the abbreviation for the Ewha Campus Complex. It was designed by famous French architect, Dominique Perrault. The ECC is the largest basement campus in Korea, consisting of 6 basement floors and is designed to be eco-friendly. For example, on the roof, there is a park that absorbs pollutants and acts as a soundproof wall. Although the ECC has many facilities for students, this article introduces places that are useful to freshmen.

B1-English Clinic
When you go to the B1 floor, there are many classrooms. You’ll take Advanced English, College English, and Liberal classes there. Also, there is an English Clinic on B1. If you have a problem while you are writing an English essay, you can use the English Clinic. At first, you have to make an appointment through website. Then you go to English Clinic and get advice from tutors for 30 minutes. They will help you to check the grammar in the essay and give some opinions on other aspects such as structure. It is very helpful if you use it wisely.

B2-Computer Labs
Sometimes, you may want to use computers urgently, so you can use the computers in B204. In order to use a computer in the Computer Lab, you will need a student ID card. The service hours of this computer lab is from 9 am to 9 pm. If you are using a multi-function student ID card, you can print your papers out. It is very useful for term projects with other students because in Ewha Womans University, students have many term projects.

B2- English lounge
There is an English lounge (B235) in the ECC building that you can use in your free time. In the lounge, you must only speak in English. When the students have difficulties in doing projects and presentations in English, they can get some help from the professors or the assistants from there. Moreover, students can enjoy watching movies and reading English books and magazines in a cozy atmosphere. This is a great place for the freshmen to improve on their English communication skills.

B3-Student Service Center
For a convenient life at Ewha you need a student ID card. To receive a student ID card, you visit ECC B303, the Student Service Center. When we visit for this purpose, we have to bring a copy of an ID picture. If you lose your ID card, you have to pay 5000 won to reissue it. They not only issue student ID cards but also international student ID cards. An international student ID card is necessary for studying overseas. When we want some certificates like proof of enrollment and diplomas, we ask at the Student Service Center. The Center provides many services to students; for more information, you can visit its website (URL: http://onestop.ewha.ac.kr)

B3-Reading Room
When you have to study, you want some places that are quiet and helpful for your concentration. In the ECC building, you can easily find the entrance to a reading room in B3. In the reading room, there are desks and chairs for students to study. Furthermore, it offers couches for relaxing and seats for using laptop computers, so you can use it for various purposes. To use the reading room, you check your student ID card and choose a seat number before entering. Therefore, you have to bring your student ID card when visiting the reading room. If you use the reading room well before examinations, you can get good grades.

B4-Art house MOMO
Are you tired of watching commercial movies? Then you can go to MOMO Theater to watch independent movies or performances. It is equipped with the latest sound system and a large screen to accommodate more than 300 viewers. Moreover, you can participate in cultural events. With your student ID, you can get a 1000 won discount. You can visit http://www.cineart.co.kr for more information.

B4-Kyobo Book Store
Do you want to read best seller books? Then you can go to Kyobo bookstore. Not only can you buy books related your major, but also other types of books such as fiction, essays, and poems. Beside the bookstore is Linko, which is a stationary store. You can buy stationery to prepare for your college life.

B4-Shinhan bank
You can use the bank quite often to remit money, supply yourself with school expenses, and make student IDs and so on. The ECC has a “ShinHan” bank for your convenience. The bank in Ewha tries to provide a good service for students. For example, students are provided with high exchange rates. Also, the bank has a face book account (www.facebook.com/shbewha.) to communicate with students. So students can get information about the bank more quickly and participate in several events. You can use the bank from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

B4-Other facilities
In the 4th floor, there are many shops . If you have to print out long paper, just visit here! In the Canon shop, you can copy your essays. It costs 40 won per page. The service hours are 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. Also there also is an optician on the 4th floor where you can get a 20~30 % discount to buy glasses and contact lenses. It opens at 9:00 am and closes at 7:30 pm. If your New Year’s resolution is to lose some weight, I recommend that you go to the fitness center in Ewha. The fitness room is equipped with a treadmill, fitness bicycles and various weight training equipment, as well as showers and lockers. With a monthly fee of 45,000 won, students can use the gym from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
